Factors influencing the willingness to provide first aid among the general population and teachers in the Czech Republic
Sekerášová, Iveta ; Kuba, Radim (advisor) ; Nodžáková, Kateřina (referee)
In the Czech Republic, citizens are legally obligated to provide first aid according to current regulations. Therefore, first aid education is incorporated into educational programs at various levels of schooling. Despite people learning how to provide first aid, it has been observed that it is often not adequately provided in real-life situations. There are several factors that can influence human responses and reduce the willingness to provide first aid. According to studies, the most common inhibiting factors include the presence of danger, fear of infection, panic and stress, insufficient knowledge of first aid procedures, and general concerns. However, most of this information has been obtained through studies conducted outside the Czech Republic. Therefore, we conducted two questionnaire studies focused on the Czech population. The respondents included representatives from the general public (N=1594) and the teaching profession (N=1876). The aim was to identify the factors that most significantly limit individuals when providing first aid. The results showed that the most important factors were related to safety aspects, emotional influences (such as panic, anxiety, feelings of disgust or nausea), and insufficient knowledge of first aid. Based on the results, didactic recommendations were...
First aid knowledge and skills of pupils in elementary schools - cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Ročková, Lenka ; Kuba, Radim (advisor) ; Nodžáková, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis focuses on teaching first aid to elementary school students with an emphasis on resuscitation procedures. First aid and resuscitation, in particular, are crucial skills for saving lives in critical situations. Although first aid education is a part of school programs, it often remains limited to theoretical explanations, which can hinder students' ability to react practically. The presented study highlights the significance of practical training and experiential pedagogy in first aid education. We conducted a survey among pupils of the second stage of elementary school (N=142), consisting of two main parts. In the questionnaire section, pupils evaluated the difficulty of various tasks related to resuscitation and answered questions focused on theoretical knowledge. In the second part, pupils demonstrated resuscitation on an electronic training model. The conducted research confirmed that theoretical knowledge often does not translate into the ability to perform necessary tasks in practice. Pupils faced the greatest difficulties with tasks involving rescue breathing, but deficiencies were also observed in achieving the correct compression frequency and depth. Based on the obtained results, didactic recommendations were proposed, which can be implemented into first aid education for...
Analysis of Misconceptions with Regard of First Aid Topic among Teachers and General Population of Czech Republic
Křečková, Adéla ; Kuba, Radim (advisor) ; Poupová, Jana (referee)
First aid is defined as a set of simple procedures that effectively reduce the extants or consequences of the threats to health or life. The first aid procedures are defined in the so- called Guidelines published by the European Resuscition Council (ERC) every five years. Even so, wrong procedures and myths are still present in the population. These could endanger peoples' health or cause death. In this diploma thesis, these incorrect procedures are called misconceptions. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the present misconceptions among general population and teachers in the Czech Republic, their dispersion and sources. The outcomes of this study are compared with results of the Czech Elementary school and Grammar school teachers determined by Zvěřinová (2018). Secondary aim is to analyze dissemination of misconceptions among the respondents from general public that had some first aid training in their life and to find out, if the extant of the training is relevant. Also, the level of first aid training at all levels of education is assessed. The research was realized by an online questionnaire. The main part of the questionnaire contains 10 case studies and the respondents decide on accuracy of the given solutions. The research sample consists of 1 046 respondents from three categories...

Actual trends in science education at primary and secondary schools with a focus on first aid
Loudová, Hana ; Kuba, Radim (advisor) ; Chlebounová, Irena (referee)
This bachelor's thesis aims to create a literary review based on original research regarding the given topic, and thus help inform the public, especially teachers, about the issue of teaching science subjects and first aid. The main purpose of this thesis is to present a comprehensive overview of the main current trends in science education and in first aid training, the advantages and disadvantages of various methods, including specific examples for their implementation in these areas. The introductory chapter summarizes a historical development of science education to anchor a focus of work into the context. The main content of the review is the presentation of individual innovative teaching methods with their advantages and disadvantages, including specific examples of their use in the teaching of biology and natural sciences at primary and secondary schools. The same concept of classification for clarity is maintained in the chapter on teaching first aid. The final chapter deals with an evaluation and comparison of trends in science education and first aid training with traditional teaching.
Provision of laic first aid by selected population groups
TRNĚNÝ, Šimon
To give the lay first aid is not necessary to have any special knowledge or equipment. Nowadays, there is being put more emphasis on the lay first aid. As a population, we are living in time when the techniques, devices and professional abilities are on high level, but without a quality lay first aid could be almost impossible to heal a patient with sudden circulation arrest if we want him to leave a hospital in the same state of health like he had come. In this bachelor theses we tried to find out the degree of theoretical and practical knowledge of selected groups of population. We chose two goals. First of them was to find out the degree of theoretical knowledge of chosen groups of population and the second one was to ascertain the level of practical abilities of the same groups. Two research questions were used to reach these goals. First question was: What is the theoretical knowledge of the first aid of these selected groups of population like? The second question was: What are the practical abilities of giving the first aid by these groups of public like? The research was a combination of two qualitative methods. First method was a half-structured dialog and the second one a disinterested obvious observation. The researched group of population was formed by teachers at grammar schools, in this case we focused on injuries or states in adult age. Teachers at kindergartens were asked about injuries and states in childhood. From the dialogs was found out that each respondent was able to give the first aid. What attracted our attention, was that an employer was of great importance to training of first aid. Frequent mistake was wrong breath control, when the respondents didn´t tilt patient´s head back and didn´t call any expert assistance, which means that a first aid training might be convenient for each of these researched teachers.
Ways of education of first aid in driving schools
FÜRST, Tomáš
The thesis "Ways of education of first aid in driving schools," focuses on the teaching system of medical training in driving schools. According to the statistics, on our roads there are approximately 250 traffic accidents every day. Many of them then request injury or the death. At that moment, the immediate help after the accident is crucial for the survival. This help shall be provided by other road users. Each driver should attend the first aid training as part of the course at a driving school and should be ready for this situation. In the thesis, there was applied mixed research, set one goal and three research questions. Data collection method for the qualitative part were the interviews with the owners of some selected driving schools, which were completed with the anonymous questionnaires filled by alumnuses and students of driving schools in the quantitative part. The research results show that teaching in various driving schools can differ, both in the form of training, as well as in the thematic content topics and qualifying education of instructors. The research has also found out that training in some driving schools do not meet the legal requirements, especially in respecting the amount of hours, and the ratio of theoretical to practical teaching. For the practice, this research shows, that there should be a change in the current system in order to proceed the teaching of medical training well and according to the applicable legislation. The research has also found oud the view and reservations about the current system of teaching the first aid in driving schools, both from the owners of driving schools, as well as the students.
